Anyway, here is a report back!
The olympics has finally become a reality to me. This dream began 5 years ago with Murray Kilgour planting the seed in my head... Without the support and continued motivation of Murray and Daw I would never be here in Hungary preparing for the Olympics in Beijing...
So here are some stats that I bet you never knew...
Beijing is 16, 807.8 square kilometres, it has a population of 17.43 million people.
At the Olympic games there are 10500 athletes exactly competing in 28 sport, 38 disciplines and 302 events.
In Canoe/Kayaking there are 74 women paddlers and 172 male paddlers. For the Females there is only 3 events, 500m K1, K2 and K4. No 1000m. For the Males there is K1, K2, K4 1000m, K1, K2 500m and then the C paddlers are the guys that Kneel and paddle on 1 side do the same events as the males kayakers...
To qualify for the Olympics is probably the hardest part as ther are only 14 female K1 spots, 20 Female K2 spots (10 K2's) and 40 Female K4 spots... only 10 K4 boats.
We will be racing from Monday the 18 August to Sat 23 August. The paddling sessions only start at 15:30 every day and we will only do 1 race every 2nd day. So the K4 girls race on Mon (heats), Wed (Semi-finals) and then Friday is the final... That is going to be so strange to have so much time between races.
Training started this morning with a bang, after our long flight we just chilled out yesterday but now that is all over. We are doing lots of short sharp intervals to get fast! This afternoon we are going to go and pick up our new K4 that we will be racing in at the World Cups... I will be sure to take a pic of it...
I will keep in touch... Nikki
